PARENT & PARTICIPANT FAQ’s

(also available as a downloadable PDF)

Here are some common FAQ’s that you may have in the lead up to our Colour Spectacular event on Monday 2nd December 2024.  If your question or query is not answered here, please reach out to the St Pat’s Colour Spectacular Fundraising Team via email - Gabby O’Bree (gabby.obree@gmail.com), Kristyn Kelly (kaquilina@geelongcity.vic.gov.au) & Clare McKay (clareneal87@hotmail.com).

Q: What is the St Pats Colour Spectacular fundraising for? Where will my sponsorship money go?

A: All monies raised through sponsorship for the Colour Spectacular will go towards purchasing new furniture for classrooms in our future new build.

Q: How do I raise money for the St Pats Colour Spectacular?

A: Use this link htt ps://www.irishfolkfestival.com.au/shop/colourspectacular (irishfolkfestival.com.au) to sponsor your child/ren for their participation in the St Pats Colour Spectacular.  You can share this link with family and friends too, any donation (no matter how big or small) helps.

Q: Can I sponsor more than one participant in one transaction?

A: Yes.  If you use this link https://www.irishfolkfestival.com.au/shop/colourspectacular you need to select a donation amount and click ‘donate now’.  You will then need to enter the first participants details – class, first name and last name. Then click ‘donate now’.  Once you have done this it will be added to cart.  To add another participant follow the same steps above.

Once all participants have been selected, click on the cart to checkout and enter payment details.

Q: How will I know if my sponsorship payment has been successful?

A: Once you have successfully sponsored a participant in St Pats Colour Spectacular you will be emailed an order confirmation to the email address supplied at payment.

Q: I’d love to be a parent helper on the day of the Colour Spectacular. How can I help?

A:  That is wonderful, we will need lots of parent helpers on the day – clear your diary for Monday 2nd December.  Please keep an eye on your email as we will be sending out a link for parents to register their interest in assisting on the day via Operoo.  In order to volunteer you will need to have a current working with children check and up-to-date volunteer paperwork with the front office.

Q: What do participants wear on the day of the St Pats Colour Spectacular?

A: Ideally students will wear a white t-shirt as the colours show up best on white.  Although the powders clean off clothes, it is advised not to wear your favourite clothes and shoes on the day, as sometimes the colour can be quite stubborn to remove. Students may accessorise with inexpensive colourful accessories if they wish such as wigs, headbands, wristbands, skirts, socks etc.

Q: Will you sell any colourful accessories that students could wear on the day?

A: Yes. In the week leading up to our event, we will be selling sets of colourful sweatbands (head and wrist bands) that can be worn on the day. This will take place on Friday 29th November before and after school out the front of the Office. Keep an eye on the newsletter to find out when this stall will take place.

Q: Will the powders stain clothes, skin, hair or outdoor surfaces?

A: The dry colour powder is guaranteed NOT to stain and will wash off easily. However, when the powder comes in contact with water (or other liquid like sweat), the food colouring is released and is likely to temporarily stain skin, hair, clothes.  As it is food colouring it will wash or wear off.

Q: Can participants wear sunglasses or goggles?

A: Absolutely.  We encourage participants to wear sunglasses or goggles to the Colour Spectacular as a safety precaution.  While it is unlikely for powders to be thrown in the eyes of students, sunglasses would eliminate this risk altogether.

Q: Did I read that there would be a raffle on the day of the St Pats Colour Spectacular?

A: That is correct.  While the Colour Spectacular itself will be the highlight of the day, there will also be a raffle at the end of the event with some wonderful prizes that have generously been donated for our event.

Q: How do I get entries in this raffle?

A: Every $5 fundraised through sponsorship gives students an entry into the prize draw.  For example, if you raise $35 you will be entered into the raffle draw 7 times.  Prizes are randomly drawn on the day.

Q: Is there a prize for the class that raises the most money?

A: Yes.  The class that raises the most money will enjoy a pizza lunch on a date arranged with the winning classroom teacher.

Q: When will the sponsorship site close?

A: The link and site for sponsorship for St Pats Colour Spectacular will close on Monday 2nd December.

Q: Why does the sponsorship site for the St Pats Colour Spectacular close before the event?

A: It is necessary to close the sponsorship site at this time so that all data can be collated and raffle entries organised.  It will also be wonderful if we can announce the amount of money that has been raised on the day of the event also.

Q: Where does the powder come from? Where is the powder made?

A: We have purchased the coloured powder that will be used in St Pats Colour Spectacular from Holi Powder by Stage FX - Make your show stand out! (colourpowder.com.au). Their Holi Powder is made in India following their strict quality requirements.

Q: What are the ingredients of the powder?

A: All the powders are made from natural ingredients (Non Toxic maize cornstarch and water soluble vegetable dye colours). Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) available on request.

Q: Is the powder gluten free?

A: Yes.  As there is no gluten protein in the starchy (carbohydrate) portion of a corn grain. The facility that the colour powder is manufactured in only produces colour powder so there is no concern with cross contamination.

Q: Are the powders scented?

A: No. The colour powders are unscented.

Q: Will the powder affect asthmatics?

A: The colour powder will create a cloud of colour powder in the air, for most people inhaling a small amount of the colour powder as they move through the cloud is not problematic.

However, asthmatics and people with other respiratory issues should use caution, given that it would not be ideal for them to be present in any area of floating particulates as this may trigger an autoimmune response.   We advise the wearing of a face mask to minimise any respiratory issues.
